When Blown-In Beats Foam
Blown-in insulation is the right choice for most open attic floors in Warner Robins. After we seal the ceiling, loose cellulose or fiberglass fills around joists, wiring and odd framing and builds up to the depth needed for R-38 or R-49 at a fraction of foam's cost per square foot. HomeGuide lists blown-in at $1.00 to $2.80 per square foot, against $1.50 to $5.00 for spray foam.
Cellulose or fiberglass
Cellulose is made from recycled paper treated for fire and pests, and packs densely. Fiberglass is lighter and does not absorb water. Both work well over a sealed ceiling. We recommend one based on your attic and what is already there.
Walls in older homes
In closed walls of older homes, dense-packed cellulose blown through small holes adds R-value without opening the walls. Some of the 1950s houses in Fort Valley and Montezuma have little or nothing in the walls.
Depth and settling
We install to a settled depth, mark it with depth rulers and keep soffit vents clear with baffles so the roof can breathe.

Blown-In Insulation Questions
Is blown-in as good as spray foam?
For an open attic floor over a sealed ceiling, it reaches the same R-value for less. Foam is better where air sealing and space are the issue.
How long does blown-in take?
Most attics take a few hours to a day.
Will cellulose settle?
Some, which is why we install to the settled depth.
Can blown-in go over old insulation?
Yes, if the old is dry and clean.
